2020 Successes and a Path Forward

The year 2020 was unlike any other. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented challenge on every aspect of our lives. At the same time, it also provides confirmation that patients, health services, and the overall market are ready to change and advance into a new era.

The Teledact (Gotodoctor.ca) team was able to respond to these needs and capture new opportunities. We accelerated the growth of our virtual care clinic locations, providing patients with greater accessibility to healthcare providers and a safer way to consult with physicians. We also improved our virtual care platform making it easier for patients to get the help that they needed, when they needed it. Finally, we deepened our relationship with McKesson Canada Retail Banner Group, with direct-to-patient access on all of their online portals.

Teledact Welcomes Drew Taylor to its Board of Advisors

November 27, 2020 – Teledact Inc. (Gotodoctor.ca) is pleased to announce the addition of Drew Taylor to its Board of Advisors. Mr. Taylor spent several years as the Chief Science Officer at Epic Capital Management, a boutique alternative investment manager, and is currently Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Acorn Biolabs.

About Drew Taylor, MSc, PhD

Dr. Drew Taylor is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Acorn Biolabs. Acorn Biolabs is a healthcare technology company focused on giving every human being the best chance to experience more healthy years with its easy, affordable and non-invasive live cell collection, analysis, and cryopreservation service. He completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Michigan and a Masters from the same school in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. He also holds a PhD with the University of Toronto in Biomedical Engineering.

Prior to joining Acorn, Drew spent several years as Chief Science Officer at Epic Capital Management working across the flourishing medtech start-up community. Also, prior to that he was a part of Mount Sinai Hospital’s Bioengineering of Skeletal Tissues Team and has been widely published across international medical journals with specific focus on tissue engineering and sports medicine. Drew also enjoyed a career in professional baseball as a pitcher for both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies minor leagues, charting parallel paths simultaneously across professional sports and science.

Mr. Barlow, the Director of Operations at Fieldgate Retirement Living, and Dr. Banglawala, a specialist in Otolaryngology, bring extensive experience and knowledge in specialized care.

About Dr. Sarfaraz Banglawala, M.D., MPH, FRCSC

Dr. Banglawala is an Otolaryngologist – Head & Neck Surgeon currently working at William Osler Health System and Trillium Health Partners. A native of Toronto, Dr. Banglawala has completed all his training locally including his residency training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at McMaster University. He went on to complete a prestigious fellowship in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery in the United States.

Dr. Banglawala has a Master of Public Health Degree from Harvard University, and has also completed the Advanced Leadership in Healtcare Executive program at Rotman School of Business, as well as the Health Law Program at Osgoode Hall Law School. He holds the positions of Assistant Professor at McMaster University and Lecturer at University of Toronto. He also is a peer reviewer for multiple international research journals. With extensive background in research methodology and data analysis, Dr. Banglawala is now exploring surgical advancements through various medical technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

About Mr. Ray Barlow

Ray Barlow is the Director of Operations at Fieldgate Retirement Living. Mr. Barlow brings 25+ years of progressive experience in the Long Term Care and Senior Living industry, focused on building strong and dynamic communities across North America. Ray has a strong interest in innovative technology and has led the development and implementation of senior housing, Nursing and Operations software that continues to be used in the industry.

Ray has extensive experience working with Physicians, Pharmacist, Physiotherapists and Mental Health Professions and has developed a strong partnership with investors across multiple business units and has exceeded over $100 million in the Senior Housing industry for design, build and development.

Mr. Barlow holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville Quebec, a Master’s in Business Administration from Niagara University in New York and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Schulich University in Toronto. He is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in Ontario, a member of the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) and Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA). Previously, Ray was the Chair of the Board of Directors, Niagara District Health council and vice chair for the Niagara CCAC, as well as a published Author for COACH Magazine.

About Rebecca Yu

Rebecca Yu is the Vice President, Market Access & External Affairs at Takeda Canada. Prior to assuming this role, she held the position of Head, JLABS Canada and was instrumental in setting up J&J Innovation’s first international JLABS incubator in partnership with the Ontario Government, University of Toronto, MaRS Innovation and 8 research hospitals, to help catalyze life science start-ups through the translation of science into valuable solutions for patients. Rebecca has over 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in a range of positions with Solvay Pharma, P&G, Servier, Pfizer and Janssen, covering value based access, external affairs, HTA, health policy, innovation sourcing, business development, alliance building, venture capital, and public-private partnerships.

Prior to joining industry, she practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist at The Wellesley Hospital. Rebecca is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Pharmacy. Rebecca was previously on the Board of Directors for the Markham Stouffville Hospital, the Life Sciences Ontario Association, the Centre for the Commercialization of Regenerative Medicines (CCRM), the Nanomedicines Innovation Network (NMIN) and was a member of the Joint Steering Committee for the University of Toronto’s Neuroscience Catalyst. Rebecca was appointed to the Government of Canada’s Selection Committee for Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI) to provide recommendations on selection of recipients of over $400M in VC funds. She is currently on the Ryerson University FEAS Dean’s Advisory Council, on the Canadian Pharmaceutical Sciences Foundation Board and a volunteer with the COVID-19 physician-led initiative on Critical Care Medicines.

About Dr. Pierre Geoffroy, MDCM, MSC, FCFP, DABAM

Dr. Geoffroy is currently an attending physician at Newmarket Health Centre and Lakeview Manor in Beaverton. He is also the house physician at a senior living centre and practices family medicine in Aurora. Previously, Pierre spent several years as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at McGill University before joining the Pharmaceutical Industry, where he held several senior positions in research and development at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi Pasteur, Biovail, and INC Research.

Early in his career, Dr. Geoffroy practiced emergency medicine in both Montreal and Newmarket, and has since then continued in family practice and geriatric medicine. Over the past 7 years, he has extended his work to include addiction patients at his local practice and at his addiction medicine clinic in Oshawa.

Dr. Geoffroy attended Medical School at McGill University and holds a BSc in Nutrition from McGill and a MSc in Human Nutrition from the University of Toronto. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine, being board-certified in Addiction Medicine. His area of interest lies in addiction disease and concomitant mental health disorders. Pierre is bilingual in French and English and holds medical Licenses in Quebec and Ontario.

Teledact Inc. Appoints Sunny Wong as VP, Technology and Corporate Development

September 10, 2020 – Teledact Inc. (Teledact) is pleased to announce the addition of Sunny Wong to its management team. Sunny is a multi-talented business executive with over 20 years of experience, building a long track record of delivering results and leading successful business transformations across multiple ventures. Over his career, Sunny had successfully managed a myriad of duties spanning operations, information technology, business development, contract management, human resources, and health & safety.

“We are excited to add Sunny to our growing leadership team. His experience in developing and managing mid-to-large scale technology and enterprise projects throughout the business life cycle will be instrumental to Teledact’s growth and virtual care expansion,” said Tommy Cheung, President of Teledact.

Sunny holds a Systems Design Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo, and is an expert at implementing, growing, and supporting IT platforms, as well as optimizing efficiencies and building automated systems/processes.
