Ask your question hereAugust 26, 2025 – Gotodoctor.ca is thrilled to announce its new partnership with Lung Games International Inc. to launch a demonstration project introducing Sparky™, a game that uses the spirometer as the game controller, to help preschool children learn lung function testing while allowing parents and clinicians to monitor lung health.
Asthma is the most common chronic condition in children, with 1 in 3 emergency department visits for children under five being asthma-related. Yet, there are currently no objective tools available in the community for diagnosing or monitoring asthma in children under six. Sparky™ addresses this critical gap by transforming spirometry maneuvers into a fun, interactive gaming experience using a spirometer as the game controller. Children learn essential breathing exercises while their lung function is objectively measured and tracked in real-time.
Leveraging human factor engineering, Sparky™ was co-designed with young children to ensure consideration of brain and physical development in game design. It is the first and only truly interactive game with a spirometer-controller that teaches children breathing techniques through the game itself, without the need for extensive coaching by clinicians in institutions. Primary care providers and parents now have a way to teach breathing exercises and objectively monitor lung health in young children while remaining in the community.
This collaboration combines Gotodoctor’s digital care platform and extensive care network with LungGames’ engaging, child-friendly spirometry innovation. Together, we are able to validate new approaches to pediatric asthma care in real-world settings, paving the way for Sparky™ to become a tool under public and private health benefit programs.
“Through breathing powered interactive gaming™ with Sparky™, LungGames is making timely spirometry accessible to young children in all communities,” commented LungGames’ CEO, Nancy Lum-Wilson. “Our collaboration with GoToDoctor is an opportunity to showcase how integrated care with innovative digital solutions supports families, clinicians and payers to improve respiratory outcomes and quality of care at a population level.”
“By combining Gotodoctor’s digital healthcare platform with LungGames’ technology, we are creating a new way for children, parents, and clinicians to work together in managing asthma,” said Tommy Cheung, CEO and Founder of Gotodoctor.ca. “This collaboration not only gives families clear, objective tools while showing how digital health can scale to support more patients, but also demonstrates the capability of the Gotodoctor platform to integrate innovative healthcare solutions for its partners and members.”
